run.

We’re running through the mall and getting the odd looks and the disapproving looks and the what-the-hell-are-you-doing looks but we don’t care. There’s no fun in walking. And there’s no time to waste. Cruising through life is what I do best but sometimes you need to give life a little shove along. Like a car that you fix again and again and again and no matter what you do some funny technical bit inside will slow it to a crawl. Sometimes the best thing to do is to get it to the top of the hill and roll all the way down with no brakes. And if that’s a bit dangerous and not really that similar to what we’re really doing then who cares, we’re running and running and jumping down the escalators and I guess some people could call it crazy, lunatic, but whatever.

The sliding doors open too slow and we squeeze out the gap, sorry lady with the shopping trolley (that we nearly knocked over) and the screaming baby, we can’t stop, but here’s a lollipop for the kid, have fun, and we jump over the coffee tables, swing around and around the traffic light post as we waitwaitwait, stupid red man with his hands by his sides, he looks a bit bored, have a lollipop. We miss and it lands in the old man’s hat, we race past him, have a good day.

We have to get there soon, come on, faster! And we’re there and we rip out the post-it note pads from our bags and we start sticking them on the mirror, overflowing onto the walls, on the inside of cubicles, the little coloured compliments and fuzzies that we wrote this morning (such fun), put the lollipops in their colouredness in on the edges of the basins, on top of the dryers.

Sometimes you just need to brighten someone else’s day too.
